When you were born
I promised
to hit a home run
and
make you proud
have you
stand up and cheer
and applaud
as I did you
When you started
to grow
I showed you
how
to pitch
catch
field
slug that ball
a
mile
a country mile
And you were
incredibly
polite
but you knew
you knew
you would
decide
how to do
all this
yourself
That if it went
well
you would
salute
me
as you rounded
the bases
of
life
and I
would
(from the stands)
hoop and
holler
hoop and
holler
Today
at the end
of this
game
I still dream
Oh
do I dream
And am certain
as
certain
can be
that
heaven
is a ball park
that
you are at
bat
that you hit
it out
That
you
get the cheers
the thrown hats
high fives
hip bumps
the
poured gatorade
and
I
get a ton
an eternal ton
of
pats
on
the
back
And I shout
I shout so loud
everyone hears it
everywhere:
“Can you believe it?
Did you see that?!”
